Turning Inserts
CCMT Carbide Turning Inserts
Positive 80° diamond turning inserts in ISO 1832 standard sizes — sharp, low-force geometry built for finishing, thin-wall parts and aluminum machining.
Product Overview
CCMT inserts are positive 80° diamond-shaped indexable turning inserts with a 7° clearance angle, available in standard ISO sizes CCMT09T302 / 09T304 / 09T308 (IC 9.525 mm, thickness 3.18 mm, nose radius 0.2 / 0.4 / 0.8 mm). The positive rake geometry keeps cutting forces low and the cutting edge sharp, which makes CCMT the first choice for finishing and semi-finishing of aluminum, non-ferrous metals and stainless steel, and for thin-wall components where vibration and workpiece deflection must be minimized.
Key Features
- Low cutting forces — positive rake geometry reduces power consumption and vibration
- Sharp cutting edge ideal for thin-wall parts and low-rigidity setups
- Excellent surface finish for finishing and light semi-finishing operations
- Positive chip breaker curls chips away and resists built-up edge on aluminum
- PVD-coated and uncoated polished options for aluminum and non-ferrous metals
- Full CCMT09T3 series: 02 / 04 / 08 nose radii from fine finishing to light roughing

FAQ
Questions Buyers Ask
What does CCMT stand for?
Per ISO 1832: C = 80° diamond shape, C = 7° clearance angle (positive), M = tolerance class (medium), T = single-sided positive insert with a 40° to 60° countersunk fixing hole. CCMT09T302: IC 9.525 mm, thickness 3.18 mm, nose radius 0.2 mm.
What is the difference between positive and negative inserts?
Positive inserts (CCMT) have a clearance angle greater than 0° and are used in positive holders with a single-sided design — they cut with lower force, a sharper edge and better chip control, ideal for finishing and light cuts. Negative inserts (CNMG) have a 0° clearance angle, are double-sided (more cutting edges) and stronger, but need more power and rigid setups — best for heavy roughing.
Why choose positive CCMT inserts for finishing and thin-wall parts?
The positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces, which lowers vibration and workpiece deflection — exactly what thin-wall components need to hold size. The sharp edge also produces a better surface finish and prevents work hardening, which matters for stainless steel finishing.
Which grades do you offer for CCMT inserts?
We supply PVD-coated grades (TiAlN / TiN) for stainless steel and soft steel finishing, and uncoated polished grades for aluminum and non-ferrous metals to prevent built-up edge. Tell us your workpiece material, operation and cutting parameters and we will recommend the right grade.
Can CCMT inserts machine aluminum?
Yes — CCMT is one of the preferred shapes for aluminum turning. Use an uncoated polished or low-friction PVD-coated grade with a sharp edge and positive chip breaker to avoid built-up edge, and apply coolant, mist or air blast for the best surface finish.
