Turning Inserts
VNMG Carbide Turning Inserts
Negative 35° diamond turning inserts in ISO 1832 standard sizes — the go-to geometry for precision profiling, narrow-space contouring and slender part turning on steel and stainless steel.
Product Overview
VNMG inserts are negative 35° diamond-shaped indexable turning inserts with a 0° clearance angle, available in standard ISO sizes VNMG160404 / VNMG160408 (IC 9.525 mm, thickness 4.76 mm). The sharp 35° included angle reaches narrow grooves, undercuts and complex contours that 80° shapes cannot access, while the double-sided negative design delivers two cutting edges per insert. They are the first choice for precision cutting, contour profiling and machining of slender and thin-wall components in steel and stainless steel.
Key Features
- 35° sharp included angle reaches narrow grooves, undercuts and complex contours
- 2 cutting edges per insert (double-sided negative design)
- CVD multilayer coating for wear resistance and thermal stability
- Small nose radii (0.4 / 0.8 mm) for fine finishes and precision profiling
- Ideal for slender and thin-wall parts — low cutting forces with sharp geometry
- Custom grades and private-label packaging available

FAQ
Questions Buyers Ask
What does VNMG stand for?
Per ISO 1832: V = 35° diamond shape, N = negative clearance angle (0°), M = tolerance class (medium, ±0.08 to ±0.13 mm), G = chip breaker/face type. VNMG160408: IC 9.525 mm, thickness 4.76 mm, nose radius 0.8 mm.
Why choose a 35° VNMG over an 80° CNMG?
The 35° included angle gives VNMG access to narrow grooves, undercuts and complex contours that an 80° diamond cannot reach. Trade-off: fewer cutting edges per insert (2 vs 8), so VNMG is chosen for access and precision rather than lowest cost per edge.
When should I use VNMG inserts?
Use VNMG for precision profiling, contour turning, chamfering, and machining of slender or thin-wall parts in steel and stainless steel. VNMG160404 (r 0.4 mm) suits fine finishing; VNMG160408 (r 0.8 mm) is the general-purpose choice with a stronger edge.
Which VNMG grade should I use for stainless steel?
For stainless steel (M group), use PVD-coated grades with sharper edges — they reduce work hardening and built-up edge. For carbon steel (P group), CVD-coated grades provide better wear resistance at higher speeds. Send us your material and operation and we will recommend the grade.
Do you offer private label for VNMG inserts?
Yes — OEM/ODM with private-label packaging, custom grades and laser marking per your specification. Standard sizes MOQ 10 pcs.
